Check out this very cool video of extremely close-up footage of an erupting volcano in Iceland. It's hard to believe there is no CGI trickery going on.
The footage was shot by Eric Cheng, director of aerial imaging for drone makers DJI, whose GoPro camera was so close to the bubbling magma that the front of it melted.
Cheng was joined by photographer Ragnar Th. Sigurdsson for the last-minute trip to the eruption site at Bardarbunga, Iceland in September.
Sigurdsson had received permits from local authorities that allowed the filmmakers to get close enough to send a drone over the erupting volcano.
Iceland is one of the most volcanically active countries in the world. It's the only place on the planet where a mid-ocean ridge rises onto dry land.
Check out the incredible footage below – we promise you it is not a scene from The Lord of the Rings!
