Stephen King talks A Good Marriage

“I wanted to explore the idea that most people are sleeping with a stranger," declares Stephen King, who wrote the screenplay after his own 2010 novella.

King himself has been married for 43 years. "Most of us have lives that are secret inside," he tells the (New York) Daily News.

Bearing some resemblance to Gone Girl - which also opens up this week - A Good Marriage, directed by Peter Askin, was inspired by the 2005 arrest of the serial killer, Dennis Lynn Rader.

Lynn Rader murdered ten victims in the course of a 17-year long spree of murder and torture.

“His wife never knew about this life that he was living — and I thought it would be interesting. I write things because I want to know and that's the way that I find things out. I use my imagination to tell a story and see if I can see inside things that puzzle me. "

The case formed the basis for King’s 2010 novella, and led in turn to his screenplay. Joan Allen plays Darcy, the housewife who discovers that her accountant husband (Anthony LaPaglia) is a serial killer.
