The Velvet Underground’s 1969 self-titled third album is to be released as a six CD deluxe release to mark its 45th anniversary in November.
Comprising 65 tracks in total, the release features the original album, complete with alternate mixes, and live recordings from gigs in San Francisco. Also in the package is a case-bound book with liner notes penned by Rolling Stone writer David Fricke.
The album was the band’s first without its co-founder, Welsh pianist, cellist and songwriter John Cale who went on to enjoy a successful solo career.
21-year-old Doug Yule replaced Cale on the band's third album. The eponymous record was the first album produced and arranged by the band themselves.
