Sheridan Smith, who is currently starring in ITV drama Cilla, feels out of her depth in Hollywood because of her lack of professional training, insisting: "I'm not a real actor."
The 33-year-old star, who won an Olivier Award for her lead role in West End hit Legally Blonde in 2011, admits to having concerns about the future of her career.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, she said, "I spend most of my time feeling like I'm totally blagging it through life. I didn't go to drama school. I just wing it. And I honestly do feel out of my depth.
"So I keep my head down. I don't want anybody to spot I'm not a real actor . . . I hate myself sometimes, just can't be myself. I can only play characters. I wish I had more confidence when I'm being me."
The second part of Cilla, the new dramatisation of the life of Cilla Black, can be seen on ITV tonight at 9.00pm.
