Newsfeed, a new news programme, begins today (September 22) on RTÉ2 at 6.55pm and 7.55pm, Monday to Friday, and will replace RTÉ News on Two.

The new bulletins will be presented by 31-year-old multimedia journalist Carla O’Brien, and will feature a mix of national and international news, along with sport and entertainment text feeds.

Carla is from the village of Caledon, County Tyrone and is a world champion Irish dancer, and for four years performed on stages worldwide as the principal dancer in Riverdance.

She graduated in Management Information Systems from Queens University, Belfast, and went on to work at the financial services firm, Deloitte.

After completing a Masters in Journalism at NUI Galway Carla joined RTÉ in 2011. She first worked as a researcher on RTÉ’s News at One before going on to be a presenter and reporter for RTÉ’s News2day, a daily news programme for young viewers. She has regularly contributed as a multimedia journalist to RTÉ News bulletins, radio programmes, and RTÉ’s online news service.

Speakng about the new bulletins, Carla said: “Newsfeed is a brand-new way of presenting news on Irish television that we hope will particularly appeal to RTE2‘s under 35s audience.

"We will still feature the top stories of the day but in a more direct and succinct way. A lot of people try to keep across news online or via social media during the day but don’t have the time to sit down to watch a full news programme so we’ll be presenting them with shorter bulletins that will keep them informed in between their favourite comedy or documentary series on RTÉ2."
