DCI Banks has been recommissioned for a new six-part, fourth season by ITV.
The series is based on Peter Robinson's Inspector Alan Banks novels and stars Stephen Tompkinson in the title role, Andrea Lowe as DS Annie Cabbot and Caroline Catz as DI Helen Morton, will resume filming later this month.
The new run will delve deeper into Banks's relationship with his parents (played by Keith Barron and Polly Hemmingway), further complications in Cabbot and Banks's on/off romance, as well as a career-threatening personal crisis for Morton.
Featured stories include the tragedy of a well-loved maths teacher run down by a car, with his girlfriend suspecting her own father and cousin are responsible, due to her having walked away from an arranged marriage.
Another episode will see Helen Morton's past return to haunt her when an old flame from another police force is mysteriously killed after implying he was being framed.
ITV Director of Drama, Steve November, said: "DCI Banks is much loved by the ITV audience and I'm thrilled a fourth series has been commissioned."
