Laurence Fishburne has revealed that he will be returning to US drama Hannibal for the show's upcoming third run.

The actor, who plays FBI agent Jack Crawford in the NBC series, confirmed the news after viewers saw his character's life hanging in the balance at the bloody climax of season two.

When asked by Deadline what to expect from Crawford in season three, Fishburne boldly stated: "Jack is back."

The 53-year-old, who is also starring in a new ABC comedy Black-ish, added that he enjoys playing a broad range of roles. "It's exactly what I love about what I do as an actor," he said.

"I love the opportunity to use my full range, and so playing in the comedy Black-ish gives me the opportunity to show my lighter side, and playing in this beautiful, elegant horror story of Hannibal, I get to use my darker and more cerebral side. It's really wonderful."

It was recently announced that Gillian Anderson will become a series regular on Hannibal, having made guest appearances in the first two seasons as psychiatrist Bedelia Du Maurier.

Hannibal is expected to return in mid-season on NBC and subsequently on this side of the Atlantic on UK satellite channel Sky Living.
