Electro artist FKA Twigs and poet Kate Tempest lead the pack in the nominations for this year's Mercury Music Prize, an esoteric list featuring seven debuts and three jazz albums.
FKA Twigs, Tahliah Debrett Barnett from Gloucestershire, is 3-1 favourite to win with her debut LP1, along with London poet and winner of the Ted Hughes Prize Kate Tempest, who wowed the Kilkenny Arts Festival this summer.
Tempest is also 3-1 favourite to take the £25,000 prize money and the spike in sales for her album Everybody Down when the Mercury is awarded in a live televised broadcast in London on October 29.
