Doctor Who star Jenna Coleman has hinted at a "surprise" coming up involving her character Clara.

In an interview with Radio Times, she also refused to confirm or deny rumours that she is set to exit the hugely popular BBC sci-fi show.

"There's lots of rumours," she said. "We've sat down with [Doctor Who showrunner] Steven Moffat and we've all decided we don't want anyone to know which way it's going.

"If you know I'm in the next series - or if you know I'm off - you'll know how the story ends. Because there's a surprise we've got coming, it's much better that nobody knows which way it's going to go."

Peter Capaldi recently addressed rumours of Coleman's exit, saying: "I'm not looking for a new assistant. I don't know where these rumours have started."

Doctor Who continues this Saturday (September 13) at 7.30pm on BBC One.
