Tributes have been pouring in for comedian Joan Rivers following her death yesterday, aged 81.
Rivers suffered a cardiac arrest in New York's Mount Sinai hospital having been on life support for a week.
The star's daughter Melissa released a statement saying, "It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1.17pm surrounded by family and close friends.
"My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother. Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated.
"My mother's greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon."
"I've just been told the sad news that Joan Rivers has passed away. Just a week ago I was in her company and was so blown away by her infectious wit and charm and care to make me feel so comfortable and welcome. My love and prayers are with Joan, her daughter Melissa and all her family and close friends. RIP. 😥❤️"
When I was ten I went to see a taping of Hollywood Squares and Joan Rivers was the center square. She was always riotously funny. And cool.
