The father of the late actress Brittany Murphy has lashed out at a US TV movie biopic that purports to tell the story of his late daughter's life, deeming it "trashy" and "hideous".
Angelo Bertolotti, said the actor cast as Murphy barely resembles the star of 8 Mile and Clueless, and he condemned the film's "bad wigs" and "nauseating" dialogue.
"I am disgusted and outraged that Lifetime decided to produce such a trashy project, defiling the memory of my beautiful, talented daughter, Brittany Murphy," Bertolotti told the Examiner.
"Frankly, I am amazed at their audacity of calling it 'a true story' without conducting any research or consulting with any members of the family. The Brittany Murphy Story is an affront to everything my daughter was in real life. It's hideous, unauthorised and completely untrue."
The Brittany Murphy Story screens in the US this Saturday, September 6, and reportedly examines 2013 claims by Bertolotti that his estranged daughter's death was the result of poisoning.
Murphy was found dead at her home in the Hollywood Hills in 2009 at the age of 32. The LA coroner's office concluded that pneumonia was the cause of death, with "anemia and prescription drugs (playing) a role".
However, in November 2013, Bertolotti presented the press with "evidence" suggesting she had been murdered.
