Cagney & Lacey star Tyne Daly has been cast in hit comedy Modern Family as a "fierce" character.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Daly will guest star as Mrs Plank, Lily's (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) stern teacher in the episode Won't You Be Our Neighbor in the upcoming sixth season.
Modern Family returns to US television on Wednesday September 24.
