40 costumes from the first four series of Downton Abbey are on display at the Winterthur Museum, a palatial former estate of the du Pont family in the US state of Delaware.
A century ago, the du Pont family mansion was the American equivalent of Downton Abbey.
"They lived a life of amazing precision," estate historian at Winterthur Maggie Lidz declares, according to The Telegraph. "A lot of rules that are unfamiliar to us today - when you wear gloves, when you wear a tiara, when is a white tie appropriate? When is black tie appropriate? How do you dress for a cricket match?"
The exhibition is organised chronologically through a typical day, beginning with the servants' costumes before the aristocratic family arises and comes down to breakfast.
It takes the story sartorially through leisure activities, afternoon tea, dinner and bed-time.
