MasterChef's Gregg Wallace has admitted that the Strictly Come Dancing judges scare him.

The cookery judge is wary of having the tables turned on him by Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli, Darcey Bussell and Len Goodman, who return to the hit show this weekend.

"The judges scare me because you are working really hard and they are the experts and they are there to scrutinise everything you do," Wallace said.

"It is in their professional interest to critique you properly and that is scary. If they don't pick up on something you do wrong then they lose credibility."

The 49-year-old admits to a soft approach to judging: "On MasterChef I let people get away with things as long as they cover it in Chantilly cream."

Wallace also confessed that his dancing skills may not match his desire to do well as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.

"I now realise after a bit of practice that there are no similarities between dancing and proper dancing. It's as different as paddling and swimming in the channel!"

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Sunday September 7 at 8pm on BBC One.
