Australia's federal government has struck a A $21.6 million (US $20.2m) deal to get Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales shot there.
According to Variety, Australian federal arts minister George Brandis agreed the deal after significant negotiations with Disney.
Funding had previously been agreed for 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea but funding will be re-allocated as a result of that project being abandoned.
Brandis said of the deal: "The government is pleased to agree to Disney's request to enable earlier funding to be re-purposed for the production of Pirates of the Caribbean 5. Any decision to film productions in Australia is a commercial matter for Disney."
Production would begin in early 2015, with Pirates of the Caribbean 5 due for release in July 2017.
The fifth instalment in the franchise will once again star Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The script is by Catch Me If You Can's Jeff Nathanson.
