Steve Carell is replacing Zach Galifianakis in Freeheld, the Peter Sollett-directed film based on the 2007 documentary about Laurel Hester and Stacie Andree.
The 52-year-old comedian is being brought in to replace 'The Hangover' star Galifianakis, who is unable to play the part due to scheduling conflicts.
Freeheld tells the story of Laurel Hester and Stacie Andree who fought to amend the Domestic Partnership Act in the US, which grants pension benefits to domestic partners of all New Jersey public employees.
Carell will play Steve Goldstein, an advocate for Garden State Equality. Julianne Moore and Ellen Page are also set to star.
