Actress Wendi Peters has returned to Coronation Street's famous cobbles to reprise her role as Cilla Battersby-Brown.

Peters is returning the show for a 6-week stint which she has already started filming. Viewers will be able to see her character, Cilla, reunited with her children Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) and Chesney (Sam Aston) from October.

Corrie bosses released the first picture of Peters back on set today on the show's official Twitter page.

Since Cilla left the cobbles, Fiz and Chesney have found love with their respective partners Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) and Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn), who also feature in the picture.

Cilla's shock return to Weatherfield is all part of an upcoming storyline to tie in with Fiz's temporary departure from the show as McAlpine will go on maternity leave in the autumn.

Speaking of her return, Peters said: "I'm really thrilled to have the opportunity to revisit Cilla and the cobbles for a short while and to see what she has been up to for the last seven years."

Coronation Street's producer Stuart Blackburn added: "We can't wait to see Cilla back on the cobbles, she's a truly unforgettable character who is at the heart of Corrie's rich history."
