Tributes have been paid to Robin Williams, the iconic actor and comedian, who has passed away at the age of 63.
Robin Williams was found dead at his home in Northern California.
In a statement, the late star's representatives said: "Robin Williams passed away this morning [Monday]. He has been battling severe depression of late.
"This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time."
His wife, Susan Schneider, said: "This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief.
"As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions."
Robin Williams had three children from his previous marriages.
An incomparable talent, Robin Williams came to worldwide fame through the 1970s extra-terrestrial comedy series Mork & Mindy.
He went on to become a touchstone performer for generations of film, television and comedy fans, who could work across the genres and leave a lasting impression in all of them.
Among his many film credits were: The World According to Garp, Moscow on the Hudson, Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, Awakenings, The Fisher King, Hook, Aladdin, Mrs Doubtfire, Jumanji, an Oscar-winning performance in Good Will Hunting, Patch Adams, One-Hour Photo, Insomnia, Night at the Museum and Happy Feet.
The Juilliard-trained actor's stage credits included Waiting for Godot and Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo.
Paying tribute, US President Barack Obama said: "Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between.
"But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien – but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit."
President Obama continued: "He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most – from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets.
"The Obama family offers our condolences to Robin's family, his friends, and everyone who found their voice and their verse thanks to Robin Williams."
I could not be more stunned by the loss of Robin Williams, mensch, great talent, acting partner, genuine soul.

We saw Robin Williams perform unannounced at comedy clubs in LA. His talent was breathtaking & I have never seen such love from an audience.
