Leonard Cohen turns 80 on September 21, and a new album entitled Popular Problems is expected around the same time.

“Leonard has worked hard on his next studio album of entirely new songs, “ wrote Jarkko Arjatsalo in a programme note for the recent Dublin Cohen festival (Arjatsalo also runs Cohen’s official website.)

“He asked me to let you know that Popular Problems will be out at the end of September, shortly after his 80th birthday, ” the programme note declared, according to Rolling Stone.

Likewise, Sylvie Simmons, author of  I’m Your Man: The Life of Leonard Cohen posted a message onto her Twitter recently: “A new Leonard Cohen studio album – yep, as good as done and due the last week of September, just after his 80th birthday. Amazing!”

Amazon France has featured the album on its pages, listing a release date of September 22.

Old Ideas, Cohen’s twelfth album, was released in 2012 and was his highest-charting release in the USA. The record made number one in eleven countries.
