Former Twin Peaks and Desperate Housewives star Kyle MacLachlan has been cast in a recurring role in Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.
The 55-year-old will play the mysterious father of SHIELD agent Skye (Chloe Bennet), whose parentage and potential superhuman origins were key elements in the show's first season.
MacLachlan famously played Special Agent Dale Cooper in David Lynch's cult drama Twin Peaks, having previously appeared in Lynch's movies Dune and Blue Velvet.
More recently, he had recurring roles in Desperate Housewives, How I Met Your Mother and Portlandia.
Marvel's Agents of SHIELD has swelled its season two cast with several other high-profile additions, including former Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless, who will play SHIELD Agent Isabelle Hartley.
Marvel's Agents of SHIELD returns to US TV in September and will follow on RTÉ Two.
