In a packed Kilkenny Arts Festival programme, fiddle-player Martin Hayes’s cross-genre collaborations will attract particular interest.
Hayes will call on American and Irish musicians from the traditional, jazz, folk, contemporary, old-time, bluegrass fields for a week of collaboration and inventive session-making. At the Festival Finale, many of the resident artists will join forces in a gala night at St Canice’s. Festival dates are August 8 to 17.
At the heart of the Marble City Sessions is Irish music super-group, The Gloaming. In addition to their St Canice’s performance on Wednesday August 13, each member of the group will combine with other leading musicians for a series of intimate concerts.
Also in residence for the Sessions are jazz guitar legend Bill Frisell, folk singer/ nstrumentalist Sam Amidon, New York clarinettist Doug Wieselman, Old Time fiddler Cleek Schrey, composer, Hardanger fiddle-player Dan Trueman and percussive dancer Nic Gareiss.
