Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson has landed her latest role in Forever, Interrupted.

The actress will play the lead part in the romantic drama about a young woman who elopes after a whirlwind romance and then must face the sudden death of her husband.

In coming to terms with the tragedy, she forms a close bond with his mother, who didn't know she existed.

The film is an adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid's Forever: Interrupted: A Novel.

Amy Baer will produce through Gidden Media, while Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake of Good Universe are executive producing alongside Johnson, Roy Lee and John Middleton.

Baer commented: "Taylor's book is exquisitely written and heart-wrenchingly honest. Great romantic drama is so hard to execute, and Taylor nailed it. And Dakota will be exquisite as Elsie, who has to deal with the sudden loss of a great love. She is a deeply thoughtful, sensitive and smart woman and actress."

The highly anticipated big-screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, which stars Johnson alongside Jamie Dornan, will be released on Valentine's Day February 2015.
