The London four piece worked with Fagen, who, with Walter Becker, created the high cool cynicism of such classics as Reeling in The Years, Glamour Profession and Do It Again, in New York recently.
Amir Amor of Rudimental told music magazine Hot Press: “We were nervous - Steely Dan have a reputation for being pretty hardcore in the studio back in the day.
“With someone like that, you never know how it will go. They might be there one day, not turn up the next. Fortunately, Donald Fagen came back. He was very enthusiastic - we were surprised at how engaged he was with electronic music.”
Brit Award winning Rudimental, who play the Longitude Festival, in Dublin's Marlay Park on Sunday July 20, have also recorded collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Funkadelic leader George Clinton and with John Newman and Ella Eye, who also featured on their debut, Home.
