House of Cards has had their request to shoot season three scenes in the UN Security Council Chamber denied.

The request to film at the weekends and at night during the month of August was originally supported by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's office.

However Russia vetoed the Netflix shoot citing security concerns in case an international crisis were to break out.

Mikael Agasandyan, a Russian diplomat, wrote in an email obtained by Foreign Policy which read: "We are of [the] opinion that the Security Council premises should be available at any time and on short notice.

"Besides that, we consistently insist that the Security Council premises are not an appropriate place for filming, staging, etc."
