Patti Smith has teamed up with her daughter, Jesse, and Soundwalk Collective members to devise her Killer Road performance piece, in which she recites Nico's final lyrics.

Nico is best remembered for her collaborations with Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground on their eponymous 1967 debut album. The German singer-songwriter and musician was also a fashion model, and actress, who attracted a cult following as a Warhol Superstar in the 1960s.

The singer died in 1988. She had suffered a heart attack while riding a bicycle on the Spanish island of Ibiza, hit her head as she fell and died from a cerebral haemorrhage.

Smith will read Nico's work  at The Crossing the Line festival, presented by officials at the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF). It opens on September 8 in New York.
