US actor Bryan Cranston has followed the international success of Breaking Bad with a record-breaking role on Broadway.

Showing that Walter White isn't going to define an actor, who also featured in the hugely popular sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, the 58-year-old has now become box office gold on the New York stage.

All the Way - in which Cranston plays former US President Lyndon B Johnson - grossed $1,425,001 for the week ending June 22, the most ever for a non-musical Broadway production.

After winning Tony Awards for Best Actor and Best Play in early June, All the Way has seen its ticket sales shoot up, leading to a record-breaking week for the drama about the US Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The largest single-week haul for any Broadway show still belongs to the ladies of Oz as the musical Wicked generated over $3 million in just one week last December.
