Ewan McGregor has been cast in an upcoming adaptation of Philip Roth's Pulitzer Prize-winning 1997 novel American Pastoral.
The Impossible actor takes the leading role in the film from director Phillip Noyce.
He will play Seymour 'Swede' Levov, a Jewish businessman living in New Jersey whose ordinary life is disturbed by the upheaval of the 1960s under the presidency of Lyndon B Johnson.
According to ComingSoon.net, John Romero (The Lincoln Lawyer) has written the script for the long-gestating project, which Noyce has been trying to get made for 11 years.
American Pastoral is set to begin shooting in early 2015.
