Jared Leto is in early talks to join the cast of Brilliance.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the Oscar-winning actor is in line to replace Will Smith in the upcoming adaptation of Marcus Sakey's sci-fi novel.
The film from Legendary Pictures will be set in a world where a rare set of people are born with extraordinary abilities and are called “brilliants.”
If Leto decides to take on the role, he will play a federal agent with great hunting gifts, who is on the lookout for a terrorist with 'brilliant' abilities who intends to start a civil war.
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace will also star in the film.
Smith, who was previously cast as the federal agent, announced that he was exiting the project in May due to scheduling difficulties.
Leto was last seen alongside Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club, which earned him a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award.
Prior to that role, the star had enjoyed a six-year hiatus from acting to focus on his band Thirty Seconds to Mars.
