In her new memoir Hard Choices the former first lady expresses bemusement at how her appointment as secretary of state mirrored The West Wing, where the president-elect persuades his defeated rival to take the job of secretary of state.

It seems the Barack Obama team had to try very hard to get her on board as "Diplomat in Chief", as she had been hurt by previous accusations from that camp about her husband Bill.

Meanwhile, it seems likely that she will run in the next USA election. Should Hillary Clinton becomes the next American president she won't just be the first woman to hold that office: she will be the first former secretary of state since James Buchanan in 1857 to achieve the presidency.

As Obama's first term drew to an end, she was the most popular politician in the country, and her ratings were much higher than the president.
