Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin has said he would much prefer to have thirteen episodes per season of the show instead of ten as it would make the story "deeper and richer".

Speaking to the New York Times, Martin said of the HBO adaptation of his books: "I wish we had more episodes. I'd love to have 13 episodes. With 13 episodes we could include smaller scenes that we have to cut, scenes that make the story deeper and richer."

The fourth season of Game of Thrones will come to a close on Monday night (June 16) on Sky Atlantic at 9pm in an episode entitled The Children.
