Just hours after the sad announcement of his death, comedian Rik Mayall was already being commemorated with an unofficial blue plaque in London. It reads: "Rik Mayall punched his friend in the balls here".
The Guardian reports that the plaque was spotted in the Hammersmith Broadway area of the city and seems to refer to a scene in the credit sequence of sitcom Bottom in which Mayall does indeed punch his co-star Ade Edmondson between the legs.
A similar plaque system is used in Dublin to mark sites and people of historical, cultural and literary significance.
