The driver who caused the car crash that has left actor and comedian Tracy Morgan in intensive care and killed James McNair has been charged with death by auto.

According to Sky News, truck driver Kevin Roper also faces four counts of "assault by auto" stemming from the crash.

The Walmart truck he was driving on Saturday, June 7 at approximately 1am crashed into the back of Morgan's limousine bus, overturning it.

There were six passengers, including Morgan, in the bus, while six vehicles in total were involved in the crash on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Morgan was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick and is in critical condition, along with his friend Ardie Fuqua. Passenger James McNair was pronounced dead at the scene.

The hospital have released a statement about Morgan, saying: "His [Morgan's] family is now with him and he is receiving excellent care. We don't anticipate much of a change in his condition today but will provide a further update once more information becomes available."

Well wishes have poured in for the former 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live star on Twitter, who remains in intensive care in hospital.
