Beginning  a day of debate today, Saturday, about British and US intelligence agencies, the actor and writer declared that using the fear of terrorism is a "duplicitous and deeply wrong means of excusing something as base as spying on the citizens of your own country".

The performer was speaking via a pre-recorded interview at a London summit marking the first anniversary of  the first of Snowden's  revelations.

More than 500 people are  attending the privacy event, at Shoreditch Town Hall in East London. Experts in technology, security and human rights are contributing to the discussion.
