Ireland's new No 1 Sam Smith says he will refuse to write a second album unless he meets someone and falls in love.
The 22-year-old soul singer from the UK, who went straight to the top of the charts in Ireland with his new single Stay With Me and who has just released his debut album, In The Lonely Hour, told RTÉ Ten he has always been unlucky in romance.
"My love life has to get better, it has to change because if it doesn’t change I’m not writing another album. I am being serious - I am never going to write another album about unrequited love! My intention is to meet someone and fall in love quickly."
Smith also said that he doesn't feel his debut album is overly sad as a result and that he wants to connect with his listeners.
“I’ve grown as a singer and a songwriter and I personally believe that when artists are honest that’s when they provoke emotion and that’s when they’re being themselves," he said.
"Telling the world their secrets to their music - that’s the music that connects. That’s what I’ve tried to do with this album. I’m trying to connect."
