US distribution deal for Loach's Irish-set drama

Ken Loach’s new film, Jimmy’s Hall which is set in Ireland, has been picked up at the Cannes Film Festival for North American distribution by Sony Pictures Classics.

The Hollywood Reporter says the film will have its world premiere at the Festival tomorrow night where it is in competition.

Sony Classics signed a deal with Wild Bunch, Film4, the British Film Institute and the Irish Film Board who financed the film.

The film, which stars Barry Ward, Simone Kirby, Andrew Scott, Jim Norton and Brian F O’Byrne, tells the story of a political activist in Ireland who is deported. Loach collaborated again with writer Paul Laverty on the film.
