Woody Allen has cast The Amazing Spider-Man star Emma Stone in his next movie.

The veteran film-maker has offered her a part in his as-yet untitled upcoming project on the back of her performance in Magic in the Moonlight, which hasn't even been released.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Allen has also approached Joaquin Phoenix to appear in the film, which he is expected to write, direct and produce, with the target of a July start on-set.

The 78-year-old director has had several muses down the decades, including Diane Keaton, Mia Farrow, Scarlett Johansson and Dianne Wiest, casting each of them in several films.

Stone is currently promoting her most recent superhero movie, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which stars her real-life boyfriend Andrew Garfield in the title role.

The 25-year-old Stone will next be seen on the big screen opposite English actor Colin Firth in Allen's romantic comedy Magic in the Moonlight, which is due for release in July.
