Fox television network has ordered a full series of the Batman prequel, Gotham, which will feature younger versions of Bruce Wayne, Alfred the butler, The Joker, Cat Women, The Riddler and Penguin.
The forthcoming series will be based on the characters and plot of DC Comics' caped crusader and is set to follow the origin story of Commissioner James Gordon, who is set to be played by Ben McKenzie.
Gordon is a rookie detective whose early story is being billed as a former college football star, and war hero, as he battles the criminals who made Gotham City notorious.
Speaking about his casting McKenzie tweeted: "All I can promise is I will do my best not to screw this up. Can't wait to get to work."
