John Turturro will replace Robert De Niro in the upcoming Criminal Justice miniseries, it has been reported.

The HBO show, which is based on the BBC series of the same name, had originally cast The Sopranos star James Gandolfini before his death last June.

De Niro was announced as Gandolfini's replacement not long after, but it has now been reported that he has dropped out of the seven-part miniseries.

The renowned actor has exited the show due to a scheduling conflict, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Turturro will now star as Jack Stone, a lawyer who defends a young man accused of murdering a girl on New York's Upper West Side.

Also appearing alongside the O Brother, Where Art Thou? star are Riz Ahmed, Bill Camp, Peyman Moaadi and Poorna Jagannathan.

Steve Zaillian will executive produce and direct from a script by Richard Price (The Wire).

Criminal Justice will debut on HBO later this year.
