Danny Boyle is reportedly in talks to direct a new biopic about Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

David Fincher was in line to direct the new biopic, but pulled out of negotiations last week, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Slumdog Millionaire Danny Boyle is now the frontrunner to helm the project.

Fincher originally had his eye on Christian Bale to play the lead role, but Boyle is apparently determined to cast Leonardo DiCaprio as the Apple boss. The pair last worked together 14 years ago when they collaborated on The Beach.

The as-yet-untitled film will be based on Walter Isaacson's biography Steve Jobs, with a screenplay adapted by The Social Network writer Aaron Sorkin.

Jobs, who died in 2011, has already been portrayed by Ashton Kutcher in 2013's Jobs.
