Andrew Garfield surprised theatre-goers in London by making an unannounced cameo appearance in a play on Tuesday (April 8).

While in the UK promoting The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the actor took to the stage for The Drowned Man, an interactive play from the theatre company Punchdrunk.

The play took place across four floors of a former sorting office behind Paddington Station, where the space has been refitted to resemble a 1960s' Hollywood film studio.

The production has a cast of 40, who roam through the building in front of a nightly audience of 600.

The lead characters play out a tragic love story set in a studio, while Garfield was among the supporting cast who added sideline intrigues to the main storyline.

Garfield stars as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the superhero movie franchise alongside his girlfriend Emma Stone.
