Actress Sair Khan has been cast as Ayla Nazir, the "wayward daughter" of Khalid 'Kal' Nazir (Jimi Mistry), in Coronation Street.
She will make her debut on the ITV soap in June.
Commenting on her new role, the Leeds-born 26-year-old said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining the cast of Coronation Street. As a northerner I've grown up watching the show and so can't quite believe that I'll soon be walking on the famous cobbles."
Her character will be joined by a brother and grandmother who have yet to be cast.
