Anna Kendrick has joined the rapidly-growing cast of Jennifer Aniston's new indie movie Cake.

Cake sees Aniston play the main character Claire Simmons, a woman who becomes fascinated by Nina, a woman in her chronic pain support group.

As Claire uncovers the details of Nina's suicide she begins to develops a poignant relationship with Nina's husband.

The Wrap has revealed further casting news, with Sam Worthington signing on as Nina's husband, Chris Messina joining as Aniston's character's ex-husband and Felicity Huffman playing the facilitator of the support group.

Meanwhile, William H. Macy. Britt Robertson, Lucy Walters, Camille Mana, Manuel Garcia Rulfo and Marianne Jean-Baptiste will also appear.

Pitch Perfect star Kendrick will play a ghost who taunts Claire.

Daniel Barnz (Won't Back Down) will direct from Patrick Tobin's script.

Barnz said in a statement that he is Aniston's "biggest fan", explaining:  "Of the zillions of Jennifer Aniston fans, I might be the biggest one of all. I've especially loved her more dramatic performances, and I can't wait to watch her tackle a role that has such a brilliantly funny voice and so much raw pain (hats off to writer Patrick Tobin)."
