Divergent director Neil Burger has revealed the reason he isn't helming the film's sequel is down to work-load issues.
It was announced last month that Robert Schwentke would be taking over from Burger as the director of the film's sequel Insurgent but Burger explained to Entertainment Weekly that shooting extra scenes for Divergent caused him to have to drop the project.
Burger explained, "Once I was doing that, I was like, 'I can't be prepping one shoot on this film and then prepping a whole other movie at the same time', and it was sort of the straw that broke the camel's back in the sense of being able to do [Insurgent]. It's too bad because I love those actors and I do feel a certain ownership of the movie."
Burger will remain involved in the franchise as a producer however.
Divergent is set for release on April 4 and stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James.
