Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy Kirk on Emmerdale, has said he can't imagine not working on the soap and thinks it's an amazing job.

Brunt has been playing Paddy since 1997 and speaking on ITV's Loose Women he explained, "It gets better and better for me. I can't imagine not working there. If I get sacked on the Friday, I'll come in as a cleaner on the Monday. It's an amazing job."

He added that he is proud the show is getting more recognition in terms of storylines at award shows, "It's starting to win a couple of things now – we're getting there. The viewing figures are staying up and I think it's matured – the writing's better, it's still silly but then there's still really, really complicated mature storylines."

Paddy and Marlon, played by Mark Charnock, provide some laughs on the soap, but Brunt added that he finds the funny scenes more difficult to do than the more serious story lines, "You can shout, scream and start crying and I find that quite easy. The comedy stuff, I like working with Mark Charnock, it's great – we turn up and try and work things out, but there's an effort that has to be put into that. You've got to try and make it different and keep it entertaining."
