The Arctic Monkeys were the big winners at the NME Awards last night picking up a total of five awards, while Lily Allen was named best solo artist and Blondie were honoured with the Godlike Genius Award

It was the Arctic Monkeys' night as they picked up five big NME awards out of their eight nominations including frontman Alex Turner being named Hero of the Year. 

Lily Allen, who is enjoying her return to the spotlight, was named best solo artist ahead of Kanye West and David Bowie. 

Paul McCartney collected the special, one-off honour of NME's Songwriter's Songwriter, while Damon Albarn the very first NME Award For Innovation.

Haim were named best international artist while Disclosure picked up the gong for Best Track for White Noise.
