The Wire's Wendell Pierce is joining the cast of Showtime drama Ray Donovan.

Pierce is best known for playing Detective Bunk Moreland in The Wire, and for his subsequent portrayal of trombonist Antoine Batiste in Tremé.

In this new role he will play a parole officer who, out of desperation, takes a bribe from Ray Donovan (played by Liev Schreiber), a fixer for a powerful and influential law firm.

Simpsons star Hank Azaria also recently joined the cast of the gritty thriller as an FBI agent who takes on Donovan.

Ray Donovan returns this summer on Showtime in the US and will air later on UK satellite channel Sky Atlantic.
