Oscar nominee Leonardo DiCaprio turned down the role of Max in Halloween classic Hocus Pocus.

The actor revealed he turned down the film because he was hoping to land an audition for What's Eating Gilbert Grape, a movie he went on to star in alongside Johnny Depp.

The Wolf of Wall Street star told Variety, "I don't know where the hell I got the nerve [to turn down Hocus Pocus]. You live in an environment where you're influenced by people telling you to make a lot of money and strike while the irons hot.

"But if there's one thing I'm very proud of, it's being a young man who was sticking to my guns."
