FremantleMedia have secured the rights to the Ireland's Fittest Family format, which is currently airing on RTÉ One, Saturdays at 7.30pm.

The global rights to Animo TV/Kite Entertainment's Fittest Family format were picked up by FremantleMedia who are responsible for other successful entertainment shows The X Factor, Britain's Got Talent and The Apprentice.

Animo's Adrian Lynch commented on the deal saying, "We're delighted to partner with FremantleMedia on Fittest Family. Their sheer enthusiasm means it's in the best hands possible and we look forward to working with them on its international roll out."

Director of Global Entertainment Development at FremantleMedia, Rob Clark, said, "When we first saw Fittest Family we knew we had to have it."

John McHugh, RTÉ's Head of Entertainment added, "I am delighted that RTÉ Entertinament is becoming a home for strong television formats which have real international potential. It is a testament to the format's strength that FremantleMedia will be taking Ireland's Fittest Family out into the international television marketplace."

The idea behind the show came from Clare GAA Hurling Manager Davy Fitzgerald, who stars as a mentor on the series, and James Sexton.

The show sees 12 super fit families competing against each other in a series of adventure races designed to test all elements of fitness and teamwork until just one family remains and given the title of Ireland's Fittest Family, along with a cash prize of €15,000.

You can catch Ireland's Fittest Family on RTÉ One, Saturdays at 7.30pm.
