Breaking Bad has taken home two Writers Guild Awards, including the gong for Best Drama Series.

The revered AMC show beat off competition from Homeland, House of Cards, The Good Wife and Mad Men to pick up the top accolade.

The 66th annual WGAs also saw Breaking Bad win in the Episodic Drama category for Confessions from the fifth season.

House of Cards was victorious in the New Series category, beating fellow Netflix original show Orange Is the New Black, Masters of Sex, Ray Donovan and The Americans.

The Best Comedy Series award went to HBO's Veep, which triumphed over 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Modern Family and Orange Is the New Black.

Spike Jonze picked up the award for Best Original Screenplay for Her, beating off competition from Craig Borten and Melisa Wallack (Dallas Buyers Club), Eric Warren Singer and David O Russell (American Hustle), Woody Allen (Blue Jasmine) and Bob Nelson (Nebraska).

Billy Ray took home the award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Captain Phillips.

The Colbert Report won the Best Comedy/Variety Series, while the first part of 30 Rock's double-bill finale was named Best Episodic Comedy.
