Macklemore texted and Instagrammed an apology to fellow Grammy nominee Kendrick Lamar after he picked up the award for Best Rap Album.
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis won the gong for their album The Heist, beating out competition from Drake, Jay Z, Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar's critically acclaimed debut Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City.
In an interview with The Source before the Sunday's (Jan 26) ceremony Macklemore said: " I think [best rap album] should go to Kendrick … I understand why hip-hop would feel like Kendrick got robbed [if he didn't win]."
After Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were named the winners, the Same Love rapper texted and Instagrammed Lamar saying: "You got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have."
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis also won the Grammy for best new artist. Both he and Lamar lost in the album of the year category to Daft Punk.
